A Few Minutes of His Time Brought Her to Tears

Here’s how my fantasy generally goes…I’m on a cruise ship hanging out in a karaoke bar.  I get up to sing a song…usually something from Maroon 5 or Bruno Mars.  Suddenly Adam Levine (or Bruno Mars) appears on stage next to me and finishes the song with me.  In my fantasy world, they were playing a gig on the ship (because that would happen) and heard me singing their music.  We end up having drinks at the bar.

A young woman in Alberta, Canada had the chance to realize a fantasy very similar to mine.  According to a report in the Edmonton Journal, the young lady, 13-year-old Sydney Bourbeau, was performing Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” at West Edmonton Mall as a part of her music school’s fundraiser for the Edmonton Humane Society.  Apparently, the school didn’t know that Sheeran was actually in the mall shopping at the time.  Sheeran walked out of the HMV store near her performance and surprised her on stage.  He turned her performance into a duet finishing most of the song with her and hugging her before walking off stage.

Bourbeau said that she couldn’t believe that Sheeran was on stage with her.  She initially thought that he was someone coming up to fix her microphone.  “I was like, should I stop? I didn’t want to stop, but I wanted to talk to him,” she said. “This is, like, the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”  She was further surprised when Sheeran’s manager text her later and offered her two tickets to the concert at Rexall Place.

How incredible is this experience for this young lady.  In only a couple minutes of his life, Ed Sheeran was able to bring Sydney Bourbeau joy that she will remember for the rest of her life.  His few minutes of kindness made a difference for her.  It shows us that, with a simple gesture that doesn’t cost us much, we can make a difference in someone else’s life.

If you still don’t believe, just ask Syndey:

“I was so happy that he did that,” she said through tears. “It was incredible.”
